Addicted to Science

One of our counselors Coover and his assistant Joe helped bring something new to our RANKS program today by offering science. It was a big hit! First Coover used a microscope projected through a computer screen to show everyone a close up view on insects such as flies. The wings of a dragon fly were a particular favorite! Then campers were able to look at all various types of rocks. Information in booklets was provided for them to learn more about their favorite! Coover and Joe performed experiments using baking soda, vinegar, and a candle to teach us about Carbon Dioxide. By pouring the "invisible liquid" that he had created using the ingredients over a burning candle, he proved that CO2 is in fact heavier than air since the flame suddenly blew out. Last but not least, the moment that everyone had been waiting for arrived. With direction, campers were able to make homemade slime to bring home in all different colors. Cool!

If your camper hasn't been to science yet, make sure to remind them to check it out sometime this week!
