Slip & Slide with Camp THREE!

What better way to cool off from this crazy heat than with a SLIP & SLIDE?! Camp Three had the right idea this afternoon, and they really know how to have a good time!  Check out these pictures and videos to catch some of the action:

One of my favorite reactions of the day!

Want to see the slip and slide from another point of view?  Watch this!

From all of us at Camp Rising Sun, THANK YOU for another outstanding week!  Your kids are amazing and are truly the heart of camp.  Have a relaxing weekend, and we'll see you on Monday!

Friends, Family, and Pirates

This morning, we saw our pirate friends, led by Kiera Knightly, win in battle against the enemy pirates. They FINALLY discovered the riches of the world:  LIQUID GOLD!  In honor of their victory, the whole camp celebrated by turning Camp Rising Sun into a pirate world!  We even made up for our missed Family Night with a pirate-themed Family DAY!  Parents came to camp this morning to join their campers for some fun.

In Creative Arts campers could create their own telescopes, swords, and eye patches.  They could even get their face painted to look like a pirate!
At Sand Volleyball Court, fossils and shark teeth weren't the only things our campers were hunting for! Today, they searched for buried treasure including our glow-in-the-dark Family Night beads. Make sure to check your campers' bead necklaces to see if they found one of these gems!

Down at Target Sports, campers were aiming to blast some cannonballs. They were right on target!

We are having a fantastic Friday - check back for more updates on the activities going on at camp today!

Family Night Cancelled!

Hello RSDC Families!

Unfortunately, we have had to cancel Family Night due to inclement weather.  However, we still want to hang out with all of you!  Therefore, tomorrow from 10:00am-12:30pm, we will be holding a Family Day!  We'll still have pirate-themed games and activities for your and your campers to enjoy together.  We hope to see you all there!

Namaste

Today in Yoga Rank, we learned how to breathe in and let all of our worries go through some great stretches and sequences.  The whole activity was so peaceful from start to finish.  Here are some pictures of Abbie and her new yoga friends!

Campers learned different poses, including the Tree pose.

Other poses that Abbie taught during Yoga Rank include the Mermaid, Downward Dog, and the Seal.  I learned a lot and can't wait to go back to Yoga Rank for some more peace and relaxation!

Just a reminder for tonight:  It's our very first FAMILY NIGHT! We would love for you to join us at 7:00pm at the Cary Family YMCA for some piratey fun, with games, crafts, and more!

Climbing to New Heights

C-I-L-T-S, YOU KNOW THE CILTS ARE BEST!  That was definitely the case today, as I got to travel with these "Campers in Leadership Training" to a local rock climbing center where we put our strength to the test!  It was amazing to see them transform from regular teens to super-human climbers in a matter of minutes.  Some were even able to climb the shorter walls without a rope - so impressive!

We were joined by the CILTs from Camp Outer Limits - it was wonderful!

The CILTs are rising freshmen and sophomores in high school, and a majority of them aim to become counselors once they're old enough.  Several of the current staff at Camp Rising Sun - including myself -went through this program, as it is meant to prepare the teens for a job as a counselor.  When they are not going on crazy awesome field trips or bonding with the CILT Directors, Michael and Dee, the CILTs spend time shadowing the counselors and learning the ropes, while also having tons of fun!  To see our CILT blog, check out http://www.camprisingsuncilt.blogspot.com/!
Here's my view from the top of the rock wall!  Such a fun group!

Bump, Set, Spike!

While Camp Rising Sun runs all summer long, there are also a number of camps that are held at the Cary Family YMCA.  One of these exciting camps is Volleyball Camp where kids from 2nd-8th grade focus solely on this awesome sport!
I had the chance to hang out with some superstar volleyball players today as they worked on learning the basics of the game.  This week, the campers have learned how to pass, set, and spike the ball, among many other skills.

This camp will run for the remainder of the week and will also be held for one week in August.  I know the kids wish it would last longer because it's so much fun!

These counselors and volunteers love Volleyball Camp!

A Wacky Piratey Day

It's our second Wacky Wednesday of 2012, and WOW!  I came into camp and immediately felt like I was in the middle of "Pirates of the Carribean" because of all of the campers in costume!

In our weekly contest, we saw a huge variety of costumes, ranging from the traditional pirates to a cannonball to a "damsel in distress" - our kids are so creative!
To continue with our theme, some campers completed an obstacle course in teams.  They even had to "walk the plank" to make it to the finish line!

In today's skit, we were once again visited by our pirate friends who are trying to find all the riches of the world.  Thank goodness all of our campers are so willing to assist them on their mission because these pirates need all the help they can get! The pirates could barely stay on their boat and had to use backpacks as floaties!  Will they ever be successful!?

You (yes, YOU, parents!) can see our pirates' mission for the world's riches TOMORROW NIGHT at our very first Family Night!  This pirate-filled event will begin at 7:00pm at the Cary Family YMCA.  Make sure to ask our counselors at Rides Out for details.  We can't wait to see you there!

Megan
