Family Night!

All of us counselors loved hosting you guys last night here at the Y for Family Night! We hope you guys had fun and were able to get a taste of what daily camp life is like for your child. I enjoyed myself at the Front Porch, where we had a great time taking Royal Family portraits. It was quiet the photo shoot! I heard some parents were able to get a hands on view of our Archery program. Also, down in the woods campers were on the hunt for dragon eggs to earn some popsicles. Of course after activities we moved up to the poole room for a dance party to show all of the parents our famous Rising Sun moves. We even had a camper hold the pole, just in case things got a little too crazy. Our Royal Family friends made an appearance as well. After defeating a fire breathing dragon......the Prince was FINALLY able to make it to his Princess and release her from the dungeon. Looks like true love really does conquer all. We hope you all had a great time and are enjoying your glow in the dark family beads!
If you participated in the Royal Family Portraits and would like to see your picture, visit our new Flickr site. Flickr is a great place to see all the photos from camp that do not make it to the blog. The link is: www.flickr.com/photos/risingsun2011

Some Rest and Relaxation

With all of the RANKS, huddle games, and assembly cheering....campers can obviously get a little exhausted. Sometimes, all anyone needs is a little resting time with some of their friends. Jason and I decided to chill for a few minutes with some campers on the side hill today during RANKS this afternoon. Campers had a great time taking a break from their busy RANK schedules to chat it up with us in the shade.

As for weather concerns, Family Night is planned to be outside. Our goal is to continue to host Family Night weather permiting. If it rains, Family Night will unfortunately be canceled. Please call 919-469-9622 ext. 143 with any questions. We will update our phone message and twitter account with any changes.

Hopefully see you tonight!

Staying Active!

It is important to all the counselors at the Y to make sure campers are staying active and healthy. And more importantly....that they are doing this while having FUN. Especially this summer, certain RANKS have been designed to keep the campers excercising. Fitness RANK with Joe and Jessica has taught campers ways to keep the pulse going. Along with this, they have learned what foods they should eat and which ones they should avoid in order to have a healthier diet. Today Jessica ran a boot camp with the campers, which included running a few sprints and stretching outside. I was able to get a taste of way campers keep coming back to Fitness RANK! Everyone did a great job following drills and learning about the different muscles they should stretch. Along with Fitness, Football RANK today was making sure campers were staying active. Our counselors Aaron, Grover, and Brian were making Football drills fun for the guys as they rolled around the gym floor. They also worked on certain techniques with passing the football. No matter what RANK, I'm sure at one point today your camper got a nice healthy sweat out of their system!

Kiss the Foot

Whenever a huddle has a cheer that blows our directors Hannah or Hubbell away, one of them must follow the tradition of kissing the creator's foot. For the first time all summer, the Fiji's cheer to "The Show Goes On" was SO amazing that Hannah was forced to kiss the Fiji's rapping volunteer Kagwe's foot. GROSS. WATCH THE VIDEO BELOW! In the end, the Fiji's took the spirit stick... but not without some close competition from our previous champions Camp 3, who made an impressive entrance into assembly through a decorated banner. We also ran into our friend The Prince, who defeated an Irish Hobbit in order to further get closer to finding his true love....even if it is forbidden by his father the King. We will have to see if the Prince will finally find his Princess at Family Night! Don't forget to be at the Y tonight at 7pm for lots of fun with all of the counselors. Bring a camera for a great Royal Family Photoshoot opportunity! Last but not least, we can't forget yet ANOTHER birthday pie action shot. See you all tonight :)

Shake it Up

Campers in Riflery were in for a treat this afternoon. Our counselors Joseph and Michael worked hard to plan a shooting tournament for all the campers. Everyone made sure to have their best aim during the competition, because the top shooters were later able to use soda cans as their target. Michael and Joseph made sure to shake up the cans as much as possible in order to insure an entertaining soda explosion. A few campers were actually able to hit the Pepsi right on the spot....the cracked open soda even made for a great refreshment! Everyone was having fun, whether they were playing or just watching.

Just another reminder that Family Night is tomorrow at the Y at 7pm. There will be photo opportunities, so if you'd like make sure to bring your camera! I'll also be there capturing some moments as well :)

Third Times the Charm

Anyone could feel the heat in assembly this morning! Young knights and princesses were everywhere strutting their stuff in their costumes and cheering for their huddles in hopes to win the spirit stick, especially since Camp 3 had been the winners TWO days in a row. However, although it was a strong fight from the rest of camp, (especially the Fijis)...Camp 3 took the spirit stick for the third time. They definitely deserved the three day in a row victory thanks to their rocking cheer and rap. Way to go Camp 3! Camp 1 seemed to shine during the Wacky Wednesday costume contest, as the young knights and princesses were enough to melt anyone's heart. We heard from our very own friend the Prince and his evil father the King, who sent a human sized snake after the Prince in order to stop him from finding the Princesses. Campers keep cheering for true love as we watch the father and son's quarrel.... we shall see what will happen later this week! To put the cherry on top of a great assembly, we had another birthday pie on our counselor Blake. He however was not as lucky as yesterday's victims....for not only did he have double the pies, but his pies were filled with chocolate syrup, mustard, and ketchup. Yum.....

Don't forget to mark your calendars for tomorrow's Family Night. It will take place here at the Cary YMCA at 7:00 pm. Get excited to meet your campers counselors and figure out exactly why Camp Rising Sun is so fun!

Counselor gets CHALKED

Campers can prank too! During side hill today at RANKS, campers decided to spice up the day by decorating our counselor Chelsea with some chalk. Everyone had a good laugh, and Chelsea as always was a good sport.

Side hill isn't always so messy......look at this creation!
